The Certificate Program

Introduction

This four year program takes place in Toronto and area from early September to the end of May.

In order to accommodate foreign students and others who take part in our sabbatical program, each year of study is divided into three terms:

Term 1: mid-September to mid-December
Classes meet one evening per week for 3 1/2 hours.

Term 2: January 1 to the end of March
Classes meet for 4 [four] three-day weekends which include one residential weekend.

Term 3: April 1 to the end of May
Classes meet one evening per week for 3 1/2 hours.
In addition, each year of the four year program, candidates are required to commit to the following:
  • One fall term Emotional Bodywork workshop.
  • One summer week-long residential workshop.
  • Two additional ISPEB-sponsored workshops.
  • A small on-going study/bodywork group that meets approximately twice a month.
  • Approximately sixteen hours of independent and/or co-operative study per week.

Entrance Requirements

Candidates are required to demonstrate general academic skills including language comprehension and expression, both written and spoken, at the university level or equivalent to university level.

  1. A personal interview. Candidates will be interviewed by a faculty panel to determine their suitability for the program.

  2. A letter of intention. This comprises a detailed description of your interest in the ISPEB Four Year Certificate Program and your motivation/s for wanting to practice psychotherapy.

  3. A Curriculum Vitae.

  4. Documented proof of 80 hours [minimum] of previous individual and/or group psychotherapy.
    * In consultation with the registrar, an equivalency program can be provided in some cases. [See Tuition Policy re: fees]

  5. Ongoing individual psychotherapy with an ISPEB psychotherapist. This remains a requirement even if the candidate is already in therapy with another therapist. ISPEB reserves the right to direct the psychotherapy of its students. This includes the assignment of therapists, faculty advisors and on-going evaluation of student progress.

  6. Three letters of reference. These are to include a letter from your personal therapist.
