Introduction

This unique community of faculty and students is involved in an experiential process- oriented modality based on cooperative learning; each member is both a participant and an observer. We ourselves serve as a living textbook through which conscious and unconscious material is identified, explored and integrated as part of a living learning experience.

There is a need for a legitimate and respectful way to access and touch the body of another person. The experience of touching and working with another helps bring about positive life change for both the client and the practitioner.

Emotional Bodywork is an eclectic approach to somatic/emotional work grounded in the understanding that all aspects of life are rooted in our bodies which do not separate the emotional, mental and physical experiences from each other.

Hands On Experience

As we begin our process with the body, we observe the body in relationship and how it influences the Self in these relationships. We learn to distinguish between real and imagined sensation. Each person then has the opportunity to locate, probe and experience those forces [transference and projection] that so often prevent us from claiming our lives and stand in the way of our ability to assist others in their struggle for a full and vital life.

The process of working with another's sensorial communication begins in an acute understanding of self-awareness and empathy for another. Within this context of empathy, we experience ourselves "walking in another's shoes."

At the very heart of all these methods and modalities, traditional and cutting-edge both, we are convinced of the imperative to be in a profound and on-going dialogue with the body—to listen to what the body tells us, to honour the body as an equal partner in our awareness of our multiple self.

Everything we do is done in such a way as to facilitate and encourage that dialogue with ourselves, our families, our friends, our colleagues, our clients and, needless to say, our students.
